Homemade Pizza
Let’s get cooking and make a perfect quick and easy dish for parties, dinners, and events that will please anybody’s tastes: homemade pizza! You can truly customize almost everything about a pizza, and making it at home is more cost-effective than ordering out, but it can also taste much better.
What Do I Need?
Today’s recipe for easy homemade pizza calls for refrigerated pizza dough, pizza sauce, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, mozzarella cheese, and toppings of your choice. The toppings used here are pepperoni, Italian sausage, and portobello mushrooms. Some creative ideas can also be Hamburg, veggies, bacon, and more!
Do I Have to Pre-Bake My Crust?
If you’ve seen any other recipes, read your tube of pizza dough, or have looked at our recipe at the bottom of this post; you’ve probably noticed that it calls for preheating your oven and putting the dough in for a few minutes before taking it back out to top your pizza. You don’t have to, no. But it does make sure your pizza dough gets fully cooked instead of being partially uncooked and prevents soggy or unstable pizza.
How Much Pizza Does This Make?
Our particular recipe will make enough pizza for about 4-6 people, depending on how many pieces each person eats and how you cut your pizza when it’s done. It’ll be a rectangular pizza almost the size of an 18×24 baking pan since we will spread the dough out to the edges, which may shrink some while baking.
Will This Take a Long Time?
Making pizza will take a little bit of time and effort, even less if you use simpler toppings or items that won’t have to be cooked beforehand: pie, veggies, ham, etc. Still, it isn’t longer than most meals. Today’s recipe takes around 30 minutes, including prep and bake time.
Why Should I Make Homemade Pizza?
You’ve probably noticed how expensive and sometimes annoying ordering pizza from restaurants can be. You pay more per topping; there are sometimes limited toppings. It can take upwards of an hour to receive the food you order if you’re getting delivery. Homemade pizza is more cost-efficient by a lot and fun!
How Do I Reheat Leftovers?
Skip the microwave when you have extra pizza and need to warm it up in the best way possible. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, placing some tinfoil on your oven rack before doing so. You can then heat the pizza directly on the foil for about 10 minutes. If you don’t want to use foil, you can use any baking sheet.
Can I Make Ingredients?
If you want to make this more of a fun time to prep, which is great if you’re doing a pizza party or have others helping you cook, you can substitute homemade options for more customized and homey results. You can make the dough, sauce, and plenty of the toppings at home and use those instead.
What Other Pizza Can I Make?
Once you’ve got the idea of the recipe, you can go anywhere with a basic homemade pizza technique. You can use different sauces like bbq, white sauce, or even sweet pizza sauce like chocolate sauce. Cheese types can be altered; toppings can be changed, and so much more. You can make dessert be a sweet-themed pizza!
Getting a pizza together for mealtime or entertaining guests can be much less daunting than it may seem at first. It can be a great opportunity to have friends and family enjoy helping make something so delicious together. No matter what kind of pizza you want and who can help you make it, this recipe can help you achieve it.
Homemade Pizza
Ingredients
- 13.8 oz tube of refrigerated pizza dough
- 8 oz jar of pizza sauce
- 1 ½ tsp garlic powder
- 2 tsp Italian seasoning
- 12 oz mozzarella cheese
- 28 slices of pepperoni
- ⅓ lb Italian sausage
- 10 sliced portobello mushrooms
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
- Grease an 18×12-inch baking sheet.
- Unroll the dough, and gently stretch and press it down to cover the entire bottom of the pan.
- Bake for 5 minutes.
- While the crust is baking, if using Italian sausage, form into 1-inch balls, and add to a small skillet. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until cooked all the way through. Once it is done, line a plate with a few pieces of paper towel, and put the cooked sausage on the paper towel, then fold it onto itself, to absorb the grease.
- Once the crust has baked for 5 minutes, remove it from the oven.
- Pour the sauce into a small bowl, and add the garlic and Italian seasoning. Stir well.
- Spread the sauce across the entire sheet of cooked pizza crust.
- Sprinkle the cheese across the entire sheet of sauce topped pizza crust.
- Add your toppings.
- Bake for 11-16 minutes, depending on how golden you like your cheese to be.
- Remove from the oven, cut, and serve!
Notes
- Toppings used for this recipe include 28 slices of pepperoni, ⅓ lb Italian sausage, and ten sliced portobello mushrooms.
- The entire pizza was covered with pepperoni, ⅔ of the pizza was covered with Italian sausage in addition to the pepperoni, and ⅓ of the pizza included mushrooms. However, feel free to load it with your favorite toppings.
- If your tube of pizza crust does not mention pre-baking, do it anyway. This helps to make the perfect crust! Trust me; I have perfected my pizza recipe over the years!
- I personally prefer Contadina or Great Value pizza sauce brands, but you can use whatever. These two just provide the best flavor, in my opinion.
